bswift Selected One of Chicago’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For in 2011
CHICAGO, IL — Tuesday, July 12th, 2011
NABR selected bswift for its innovative strategies and best practices in human resources. At the 2010 event, bswift scored highest in the community initiatives category for its “bCause” committee, which is composed of volunteers from various departments. The committee selects special charitable events and ongoing projects for employees to sign up for and participate in if they choose. Activities included Chicago Cares Day, in which employees helped paint, plant and clean at a Chicago Public School; monthly visits to Lakeshore Nursing Home to play games and visit with residents; adopting a 2nd grade classroom during the Holiday season to supply the students with school supplies, gifts and winter clothing; and “Jeans for Charity” days when employees pay to wear jeans to work and proceeds are given to local charities.
Other stand-out initiatives at bswift focus on wellness and employee engagement. The “bWell” Wellness Program includes fitness, weight loss and nutrition challenges. Winners received fitness club passes and spa gift certificates, and all participants earn discounts on health insurance premiums.
“We believe that engaging our employees in efforts like these helps them feel valued, boosts morale, strengthens company culture and increases productivity. Our employees are as critical to our overall success as our software technology, and we want to ensure they have a fun work environment. We have found that one of the best ways to foster camaraderie and company pride is to work together to help others in our community,” said bswift CEO Rich Gallun. “We are proud to be honored again this year by the NABR and feel that it is a testament to our core company values of ‘Higher Standards, Greater Accountability and More Fun’.”
To ensure it is living up to its reputation as a fun workplace, bswift has a “Chief Fun Officer” who is an integral part of the firm’s culture and an essential source of ideas and input for senior management. The “Chief Fun Officer” leads a Fun Committee whose activities have included company bowling parties, family picnics, Cinco de Mayo piñatas, mini golf tournaments, Play-Doh contests, JEOPARDY! breaks, Bastille Day French toast breakfasts, etc.
The NABR established the Best & Brightest award program to raise the benchmark for company practices to improve the work environment for employees. This year’s winners were judged in the following categories: communication, community initiatives, compensation and benefits, diversity and multi-culturalism, employee education and development, employee engagement and commitment, recognition and retention, recruitment and selection, and work-life balance. The rigorous selection process includes the review of quantitative and qualitative data by an independent market research company and extensive employee surveys.
