bswift Pledges Support for June’s National Employee Wellness Month

CHICAGO, IL — Thursday, June 7th, 2012

bswift announced today that it has pledged support for, and will participate in, the fourth annual National Employee Wellness Month. This month-long initiative helps business leaders learn from best practices of how companies are developing successful strategies around prevention and good health to engage employees in healthy behavior change and reduce health care costs.

More than 140 companies across the United States and more than 65,000 of their employees have pledged their support to this important workplace wellness initiative. National Employee Wellness Month is sponsored by Virgin HealthMiles, in partnership with the Strategies to Overcome and Prevent (STOP) Obesity Alliance, the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease, and WorldatWork.

Health care has become a board-level issue for virtually every U.S. organization as health care costs continue to rise significantly each year. Forward-thinking employers are taking action to control rising health care costs by focusing on prevention as a proven strategy to counter the trend. National Employee Wellness Month highlights the powerful role the workplace can play in helping employees make healthy behavior changes, resulting in a sustainable impact on costly lifestyle-related disease.

bswift is participating in National Employee Wellness Month alongside other U.S. organizations that are leading by example to support employee health and wellness. During the month, companies like bswift will actively promote prevention and good health throughout their organizations and help their employees understand the impact and importance of healthy lifestyles. Special activities at bswift this month will include lunchtime walks led by the wellness committee, smoothie breakfasts, and “lunch-and-learns” on sports medicine and injury prevention, biking to work and the commuter bike challenge, and weight loss with Weight Watchers.

“We recognize that the biggest asset we have is our employees, and that healthy, happy employees not only consume fewer health care dollars, but they are also more productive,” said Laura Picciuca, Wellness Coordinator, bswift. “Going into the fourth year of our wellness program, and the first year of our outcomes-based incentive program, we are excited to offer our employees opportunities to participate with National Employee Wellness Month.”
