bswift Announces 2012 Fun at Work Award Winner: Mesirow Financial
CHICAGO, IL — Thursday, May 24th, 2012
Engaging in workplace fun is a serious matter to bswift, a national independent leader in software and services for employee benefits administration. In fact, “More Fun” is one of the company’s stated core values (along with “Higher Standards” and “Greater Accountability”). As part of the bswift Summit, Sarah Cooke, Managing Consultant, Great Place to Work® Institute, and Bevin Desmond, President of International Operations and Global Human Resources, Morningstar, led an afternoon discussion on employee engagement and emphasized the importance of an enjoyable workplace.
“A fun and appreciative workplace not only boosts employee morale and strengthens company culture, but it also increases productivity,” said bswift CEO Rich Gallun. “We are proud to honor Mesirow Financial, a company celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, with the bswift 2012 Fun at Work Award for their hard work and commitment to employee culture.”
Mesirow Financial is a diversified financial services firm headquartered in Chicago with approximately 1,200 employees globally. Over the past year, the company’s New Employee Onboarding committee welcomed new hires into its culture and fun work environment with specially arranged breakfasts and lunches to help forge cross-departmental relationships from day one.
Mesirow Financial kept its employees engaged throughout the year with numerous and varied events such as its annual holiday party featuring a band comprised of Mesirow Financial employees; the Oktoberfest fake pumpkin (“funkin”) carving contest; Cinco de Mayo Fiesta; and sponsorship of the Chase Corporate Challenge, a 3.5 mile city-wide race along Lake Michigan.
Additional highlights of Mesirow Financial’s fun activities included:
- Heart of Mesirow Financial: Employees purchased special treats and thank-you notes for co-workers, which were delivered on Valentine’s Day by two employees dressed like cupid. All proceeds were donated to charity.
- Week of Wellness (WOW): A week filled with wellness and fitness activities including biometric screenings, a Zumba class, a stair climb in the company’s 40-floor building, a healthy cooking class, and motivational speakers.
- Jeans for Charity: To raise money for local charities, the company collected donations from employees who, in return, could wear jeans one day during the week in addition to their jeans-on-Friday policy.
